Flavonoids are chemical compounds that can be found in a large variety of plants, flowers, and fruits, including the cannabis plant. In cannabis, flavonoids are partly responsible for giving each strain its particular taste, smell, and color pigmentation. Flavonoids are also chemically active compounds that can have a therapeutic effect in human health. Flavonoids interact synergistically with cannabinoids and terpenes to modify the particular effect a cannabis strain can have on an individual. Although it is widely accepted that flavonoids are pharmacologically active, they represent an understudied field of cannabis science, and further research is needed to unlock their true potential.
