Solvent

Solvent

In cannabis extraction, solvents are substances used to separate the plant’s trichomes from the rest of the plant material. Trichomes contain the largest concentrations of active compounds in the cannabis plant, but they are not water-soluble, so other types of chemicals must be used to break them off from the plant in order to produce cannabis concentrates. Some of the most widely used solvents in cannabis extraction are CO2, ethanol (alcohol), propane, butane, naphtha, and isopropyl alcohol.
