– THE SHUNYATA LINE OF MEDICAL CANNABIS OILS

Shunyata medical cannabis oils are a line of specially formulated full spectrum ingestible oils, created to help treat a wide variety of patient conditions and symptoms.

Beyond indications, health care providers should also consider the following in determining the appropriate formulation strength for each patient’s needs:

  • Is the patient non-responsive to traditional sedatives and/or pain medications? If so, it is likely that the patient will need to consume more than a recommended dosage if given mild or moderate potency formulations.
  • Is the patient regularly using moderate-strong sedatives and/or pain medications? If so, the patient is unlikely to achieve symptom relief using a mild-moderate potency formulation.
  • Does the patient have previous cannabis use experience? If so, they will typically require a higher potency formulation.
  • Does the patient have no previous cannabis use experience, or have they previously consumed cannabis and not tolerate it well? If so, the patient should only be prescribed low potency formulations until their reaction is better known.

How are cannabis medicine products made?

Novel cannabis medicines currently available for prescription use in India are classified as ingestible infused cannabis oils.
Cannabis oils are made using a variety of different methods, typically requiring the following steps:

The primary cannabinoids used in medical cannabis treatment, THC and CBD, must first be ‘activated’ by converting the THC-A and CBD-A found within harvested raw cannabis.  This process is achieved by using heat to convert THC-A and CBD-A into Delta9-THC and CBD.

Extraction is the process by which concentrated whole-plant cannabis resin is removed from the harvested plant material. This resin contains a high percentage of therapeutic cannabinoids and terpenes. This extraction process is often performed using:

  • Ethanol
  • C02
  • Butane
  • Ice and Water

While each of these methods are capable of achieving comparable results, some are more effective at recovering high potencies of cannabinoids and terpenes.

In order for cannabinoids to be processed and absorbed by the body, they first need to be infused with a fatty-oil/fatty-acid. This is done by exposing a mixture of cannabis resin and carrier oil to low heat while mixing. The resulting mixture will have a consistent cannabinoid potency. Common carrier oils used to manufacture ingestible oils include:

  • MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides)
  • Grape Seed Oil
  • Sunflower Seed Oil
