Background: New York State (NYS) authorized cannabis for medically certified patients in 2015. No guidelines exist for the use of MC in CM patients. The limited body of literature for MC leaves providers underequipped and patients vulnerable.

In the past two decades, there has been an increasing interest in the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids for neurological disorders such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, pain, and neurodegenerative diseases. Cannabis-based treatments for pain and spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis have been approved in some countries.

Cannabinoids for the treatment of spasticity

This review summarizes studies that examined the effectiveness of cannabinoids in treating spasticity, with a focus on understanding the relevance of the existing evidence to paediatric populations. MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, and the Cochrane Library were searched to identify studies that examined the use of cannabinoids in spasticity.
